We undertake full functional low vision assessments of clients using low-tech visual aids (magnifiers, monoculars etc.), high-tech aids (text enhancing software, Video magnifiers), non optical aids (lighting, speech synthesisers etc.) and advise on techniques (Steady Eye Strategy, Eccentric Fixation etc.) to maximise visual acuity.
We can arrange delivery and installation of equipment from several specialist suppliers, and because we buy at trade price and deliver to you at little extra cost, you can always be sure of value for money and the goods supplied will be to suit your needs - we work on your behalf - not the manufacturer! Items include basic magnifiers, lighting, IT equipment, non visual aids, signs, & safety equipment.
We can install and train your staff and clients on the use of all equipment that we supply.
We advise on suitable environments for people who are visually impaired - this is both interior and exterior. This covers lighting (levels, type and how switched), colours & contrasts (hard and soft furnishings), warning & safety devices, signs & notices etc.
AWARENESS & STAFF DEVELOPMENT:-
We offer presentations and seminars on disability awareness for the employer and service provider. This covers etiquette, practical ways of offering assistance (and when not to offer assistance) how to approach and talk to a disabled person, facts & figures;- includes particle simulations and handouts. N.B. From January 1997 we will be holding seminars on the implications of the Disability Discrimination Act.
In conjunction with Kingsway College, we are able to offer a free job matching service for visually impaired people. The only condition is that the person must be determined and motivated!
